Self Discovery

Misunderstanding is a form of lying in this perplexed world.

Danger is an obstacle in a path towards a given goal.
In our well ordered times there are few dangers that threaten the basic laws of living:
Health, survival, propagation of the species, hunger and thirst,
which is why secondary dangers, i.e., dignity, respect, scholarship take on primary prominence.
In this observation the unconditioned reflex reaction to danger works beautifully.

The brain is failing.
Misunderstanding is a form of lying in this perplexed world.

The spinal chord is an older and more venerable process than the brain,
saving man in those days when his brain was not developed enough.
When in fact he wasn't yet man.
It sorted and stored synapses and reflexes proven over millions of years,
to be effective in the struggle for survival.
It is, if you will, the inner seat of rational conservatism.

The spinal chord and the autonomous nervous system prepare the student's body,
for heavy, fierce and long fighting for life or death!
The brain has failed him.

Are you one self or many selves? Who, inside yourself, calmly watches you flying into a rage or drifting in ecstasy or capturing an audience? Do you, as so many do, refer to 'a little person who watches' or 'the part of myself that always observes, never participates'?
The title is taken from a Soviet sci-fi book I read many years ago. The book is actually the story of a scientist who develops a clone from a 'computer womb'. The title track alludes to the difference between and the physiological effect of, the brain and the spinal chord/cortex under a specific condition... the state of each, the meaning and reaction of each and the relationship between them. It is not a 'chapter' but a 'pre-chapter'. Throughout the book each chapter is preceded by a statement or observation, and, so moved was I by one of these that I had to put it, embrace it in a piece of music. There are many fascinations in this superb book apart from the actual 'story' but this comparison of our two character/ personality producing organs/systems went some way to helping me with a theory I have long discussed and thought about, which is - to be crude/brief - the difference between the outright 'academic intellectual' and the 'aware/intelligent' person. It is a huge and fascinating subject so it is best to stop there and let YOU try to explain and understand for yourselves!
The line "misunderstanding is a form of lying in this perplexed world"... was something a friend of mine scribbled on his 2nd year report book whilst we were indulging in a very psychedelic drug... 'nuff said.
We all have our very own discoveries to make and the CD is saying that here is what can and will happen. I guess that each piece represents a step of learning and personal growth.
