Can't Seem

can't seem to find a way to hold you now
and if I should, angel let me and I would

I can't seem to fly the wings are breaking down, and honey if I fall
an angel cut me to the bone
now I'm pleading, someone find the flame, let me live again

heaven must be missing someone like you, so true
it's heaven, trust me, kissing someone like you, but lately......

I don't seem to know your face, you're stranded in a lonely place
the stars were cut from your eyes, I can't say my goodbyes.

can't seem to find the threads that held you tight
honey if I should, angel let me and I would - I ain't losing you

catching the final train, won't say goodbye
'cause honey if I should I'd be losing, I ain't losing you no
let me find the flame angel, can we start again baby

heaven must be missing someone like you angel, so true
it's heaven, trust me, kissing someone like you but lately......

I don't seem to know your face, you're stranded in a lonely place
the stars were cut from your eyes, I can't say my goodbyes.

...... she lays awake and dreams about the man he used to be and the lonely woman is laughing at the dreams she used to dream, a laugh of loneliness......and have they wasted time?

I don't seem to know your face, you're stranded in a lonely place
the stars were cut from your eyes, I can't say my goodbyes.

I can't seem to settle on a title for this one - still! But I think this says it all. I wrote this originally for my father, who had recently contracted secondary bone cancer. I was touring with The Stranglers and from leaving home for a gig in Poland, with my dad seemingly "normal", I returned two weeks later from the falkland Islands, and he couldn't even walk or talk properly. I felt totally robbed, and consequently broke down. Then two weeks later, my girlfriend of nineteen years decided to leave me. Nice year! I quickly made up my mind after writing a lot of words for my dad that I'd dedicate it to both my father and my ex-girlfriend. So the chorus is for them both, but they share the verse lines - I'll leave you to work them out. (Eventually, I will print out the lyrics originally written, which are now in the form of a poem.) I find the song very difficult to listen to.
